HISTORY

The Beer Drinkers Union is not a secret society, but a divine union of all peoples, & for this reason: All great societies that have come & gone have been marked by the quality of the beer produced in that region. Beer became one of the marks of civilization that changed human beings from wandering bands of hunter/gatherers into organized established communities.

Beer was discovered by accident when some rainwater-damaged grains began to fermentin vats of wheat & hops used to make "wet bread", a meal created by hunter gatherers when the hunting was  not at it's greatest. The spoiled grains were consumed, & once its magical properties were discovered, the concoction was soon reproduced & perfected. The oldest known recorded recipe in the world is a Sumerian Recipe for Beer set in a clay tablet (3500 B.C.).

Beer was carried by Noah on the ark & demanded by George Washington from Congress to keep his army from deserting. Coincidentally, when faced with low quality of the provisions sent, the General made his own style of porter to serve to his officers.

When the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they were low on provisions, to quote a 1620 journal entry from the Mayflower, "We could not take time for further search or consideration; our victuals being much spent, especially our beer".

In celebration of this distinct beverage we seek not what good this drink can do, but the good that might be done by those who choose to drink it. No other drink has siginified community more than beer. It has caused people to congregate for more that 6000 years. Through congregation comes conversation, through conversation, enlightenment is shared.
