Dale's Pale Ale. It comes in a can. It's Ale. It tastes good. Ale? In a can?? It can't be!!
The other night I stopped by a local beer vendor, The Fooderyat 10th & Pine in Philadelphia, PA & picked up a sixpack of Dale's Pale Ale. It's made in Colorado by the Oskar Blues Restaraunt & Brewery. This beer was Fan - Tastick! There was a bite to the nose as the can approached my mouth. I took a sip, then a good long pull from this can of nectar & felt it roll back over my tongue & down my throat. The aftertaste was pleasing, leaving me wanting another swig. I poured the rest of it into a glass & watched the head clear. I held it up to the light, mesmerized by its incandescence. I held my finger up to the other side of the glass. I could make out the shape of my finger, but I couldn't make out a cuticle or fingernail, much less my fingerprint.
For those of you who have not tried this method of testing beer, it is called The Finger Test. To complete The Finger Test, pour whatever beer you are drinking into a glass, hold it up to the light, & place your finger on the other side of the glass. The less of your finger you can see, the better the beer. Generally speaking, of course. The flavor of the beer kind of spreads out from the tastebuds right on the edge of the tongue & shoots back in toward the center before the bubbles wisk down the throat. It's got a bit of spice in it, but not so much that it overpowers the senses at any time. It also tastes nothing like the inside of a tire. It goes for about 8 bucks a sixpack, so if you're going for a trip to the woods or some other place where bottles aren't welcome, it's a fine companion to bring along. As I opened the second can, I was taken back to the first time I had this beer. One evening after work about a month ago, I bicycled to the Delaware River & a defunct Industrial Pier with my wife, a professional Violinist, & a Restaraunteur. When we reached the banks of the river, the Violinist opened his backpack & pulled out a sixpack of Dale's Pale Ale. I had one. I had two. I had three. I wished I had four. We sat on the pier in the dead of night looking off to Petty's Island & Camden New Jersey beyond it, watching the tankers & Coast Guard boats motor by. We spoke of music, the fate of the eagles on Petty's Island, & how good Dale's Pale Ale is. Big props to Oskar Blues for printing on their can "Pack it in, Pack it out." for more information. If you'd like to have other beers mentioned, get involved. BDU Founder |
